My weblog has feeds for the latest posts and the latest comments.
Up to now, I was using the default RSS 2.0 format of WordPress. But I’ve just switched to Atom which is a recent standard IETF standard.
By the way, this is trivial if you use WordPress as this plugin from Benjamin Smedbergs is all that is needed. Beware: WordPress supports Atom without this plugin but it’s not the latest (standardised) Atom 1.0: WordPress only offers the deprecated Atom 0.3. Use the plugin if you want (and you should want) Atom 1.0.
The main reason why I switched is because Atom is an open standard while RSS is not.
An update: Another reason why I have updated to Atom 1.0 is because of the Atom Publishing Protocol (APP) which I feel will completely change the way we interact with the Web. I’m just starting to grasp Atom and APP but combined with RESTful Rails, things look potentially extraordinary…
