One of the “exercises” I love doing is imaging my perfect audio setup.
Two years ago, I thought that my dream combination would be a Nad integrated amplifier and Dynaudio speakers and, since last night, I have changed my mind. I now believe that my dream setup for listening to music would be:
- an Audiolab 6000A integrated amplifier (and its review on What Hi-Fi?)
- a pair of Dynaudio Emit M10 speakers (and a corresponding review on What Hi-Fi?)
- a Google Chromecast Audio (which is now discontinued by Google but which still works wonders)
The amp retails at £600 and the speakers cost £500 a pair. So £1100 or about Rs 50,000 at today’s exchange rate. Quite steep but, bear in mind, that this is not an expense but more of an investment for years and years to come.
Pity I don’t travel to the UK much or else I would have got the components today itself.
I live the dream with an older 8200a & special 40.s
I am happy as a baby
Lucky you :-)
I would love to have a good 2-channel Hi-Fi setup. Right now, I listen to music on my Yamaha 5.1 system (which is good but not transcendental) or on an old Kenwood receiver I have (which still sounds great). But I am really looking forward to move up one (if not more) level(s).
Dynaudio, Wharfedale, Q acoustics are now available locally. Even Avantgarde audio!
“invested” in a pair of Wharfedale EVO 4.4 today.
Hi Oomeshwar, that’s excellent news!!! What is the shop which sells these?
Hi Avinash,
Wharfedales & Quad (forgot to mention those) at J Kalachand ltd. Dynaudio, devialet and Avantgarde acoustics at prestigeaudiovideo address: lamivoie Black River, they have a fb account as “solid sound”. Q acoustics at Technical Dynamics Ltd address Floreal.
Fantastic. Thanks a lot for these details. I owe you one beer 😃
I have updated my High-End Audio Companies post accordingly.
At last Mauritian audiophiles have some choice. I never expected very high end systems like Avantgarde acoustics which start around Rs 500k and Tannoy GRF 90 in Mauritius. Some are indeed very lucky, discerning (and wealthy).
Hope you get to build your dream setup soon.
Your post on high end audio companies is a good initiative by the way. You could add Focal, Tannoy, Canton, Paradigm, Polk, Cabasse, Luxman, KEF, Infinity and Mark Levinson.
Thanks for the suggestion.
For the benefit of local hifi enthusiasts, ELAC and ONKYO are available at ED Electronics Ltd (local distributor for Pioneer ) at 27 Sir William Newton Street, Port Louis.
Thanks Oomeshwar.
Your most welcome. By the way Audiolab and Mission are available from Art of Sound Mauritius (see Facebook). Time to realise your dream set up.
The local audiophile environment has evolved significantly over the past year or so.
Thanks! Yeah. It’s high time :-)
