Yesterday, Anya and Kyan saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time in their lives. And, as you can easily guess, they were amazed!
Yes! Kyan, Anya and myself are currently in Paris while Christina is in Washington DC. She is participating in a number of academic events in the USA and she will finish on 8 April.
The kids and myself reached Paris on Sunday and, yesterday, we had to go to the US Embassy to do the necessary paperwork to get a visa for the USA as we intend to meet Christina in California at the end of her programme.
As you surely know, it’s not possible to obtain a US visa in Mauritius right now and we chose Paris because it was easier for us. Yesterday, we went to the embassy at La Condorde at 8:30 and, believe it or not, by 9:15, a very nice lady told us that our visas were approved.
I am therefore proud to tell you that we’ll all be in the USA very shortly to visit San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, New York and their surroundings! This is going to be our first trip to the United States of America!
I can’t believe I’m going to be in the middle of Silicon Valley in a few days!

Too bad I’m not around yet :/ I’m doing my paper work for my immigrant visa (taking forever)

Your visas have been approved quite quickly. That was a big relief I believe! That’s great. Have a good time and make the most out of your visit to Silicon Valley!

Once your in San Francisco just head south… and there you are Palo Alto, the Mecca of Innovation. Avinash it would be so great if you could have some snaps in front of the GOOGLE headquarters with our Mauritian flag !
It would make somehow a wish come true via proxy ;-)

A totally off-topic comment, do you think Willy Wonka may invade Cote’ d’Ivoire?
Patrick Ng says
What happened to the visa to USA in Mauritius? I only know that it’s not possible to obtain one in Mauritius, but I don’t know why.
Was it nice to be back in the country where you spent quite some time as a student?
Avinash Meetoo says
Hi Patrick,
I am happy to tell you that we have all managed to secure a 10-year visa for
the USA! In fact, I had prepared quite a massive “dossier” in case but the
two very nice ladies at the US embassy just asked me for some generic
information and that’s it.
So, I guess, you can expect us to visit the US quite a number of times from
2011 to 2021 :-)
As for being in France again after 13 years (yes! I never went back after
leaving after my studies), I have to say that the country is still as
beautiful and mesmerising as it was in 1998. Paris is a beautiful city and
there are so many thing to do. More interestingly, I’m meeting my uncle
after 13 years, his wife and my 9-years old niece and it’s a magnificent
experience for me as well as for Anya and Kyan.
It seems to be that this trip is going to be something really unique for all
of us!
