How can we make our country, Mauritius, better? Politicians come and go and sometimes don’t know what to do to because of, ahem, a lack of bright people with interesting ideas in their immediate vicinity…
I have set up a Google Moderator website called Ideas to make Mauritius better! where anyone can propose and vote for ideas that can really enhance our life in the Republic of Mauritius (and this includes Rodrigues and the other islands.) To begin with, I’ve proposed 22 ideas and some of them are somewhat, ahem, controversial. Then, instead of having politicians who indulge in the contemplation of their respective navels all day long, maybe a few of them will stumble upon this website and say:
Aha! Those ideas are really excellent. Let me implement some of them. Maybe the country will benefit. And maybe people will be more inclined to vote for me during the next elections. This really looks like a win-win situation.
Who wants to participate? Your idea(s) might change our future!
Shouldn’t there be a way to comment???
Nice incentive!
You always find original ideas :D
Hmm… good initiative. This is a good idea and I really do hope our dear politician will see this. Why not..they can even use these ideas in their next campaign lol. Well nothing bad as long as they also do it later on else we kick them lol.
By the way Avinash you are invited for the Bloggers of Mauritius survey 2009 on my blog :-) There is a little form there with 7 question. Your participation will be much appreciated :-) Thanks in advance and the link to it is here.
voted on almost all IDEAS. Really nice and neat initiative. Perfect platform for sharing ideas.
**Didnt know google provides this “app” **
Yeah. I didn’t too. Just found out that yesterday and I immediately thought of that way to use it. Of course, I was influenced by what Obama did between him being elected and him becoming president.
To carrotmadman6:
Sure. You can comment on ideas by adding responses to them. Try it.
Incidentally, one thing that I’ve had to think a lot was whether I would allow ideas from anonymous people. In the end, I decided against that. Only authenticated users can contribute ideas and I think this will keep the standard relatively high.
hi there. I was dead.
Yes. that’s a good idea. But I can’t seem to add comments.. Is it turned off?
and 250 characters is rather small.
I personally see one thing which would make the statement below null

How will that help their vested interest…If you see what i mean…..too bad money is talking a lot lately but hopefully….hope still exists…even if its faint….
good idea though…will check it out :)
Hi Yaasir,
That’s strange. When I log in, I can see the ideas and I can write responses (which are basically comments) to each of them. Don’t you see the same thing?
Check http://i41.tinypic.com/297i9i.png
It could depend on permissions for normal user. You are the app admin so you should have all rights by default.
Yaasir,
You’re right. Only the creator (me!) has the right to post responses to contributed questions. It seems that Google believes that responses should be used only for exceptional circumstances and should not be used as a commenting system.
I’m going to delete the few responses I wrote and we’ll try to use the system as it is for a few days.
That’s a really nice idea set up… Well it will be effective only if the politicians have not come here for their own personal gain… :)
Kudos! Avinash’s solution stands as proof that a few can make a difference. I look forward to reading about how some (hopefully most) of these ideas from the pool becomes real.
