I’ve just bought a new Philips DVD-727K (K is for Karaoke by the way and, no, I don’t ever plan to use that feature :-)
It’s really a magnificent DVD player. The feature set is quite phenomenal : Progressive scan, Component video output, 54Mhz/12bit video DAC, 192kHz/24 bit audio DAC and DVD rewritable compatibility. Furthermore it plays everything : DVD, SVCD, CVD, VCD and even plain MPG files on a CD !
In one word, it’s great !

What do you think about HDD Enclosure Players? Just got one! Plays nearly all formats. You copy all your movies to the hard disk, plug it to your TV and that’s it. Supports only 2.5″ IDE though…

Hi Jas,
Did you get one here in Mauritius? How much does it cost? Thanks to let me know.
Jas says
Nope my cousin got me one from China! Costs approximately Rs 700. 2.5″ is a laptop hard disk right?
avinash says
Yes. And they are not very expensive now.

Saw a couple of those USB enclosures with MPEG4 and DivX playback on Jacey’s price list last month.
The 2.5″ USB mobile case was at Rs1,200 (VAT inc.) and the 3.5″ was at Rs1,800. Both come with IR remote controls.
There was also a 3.5″ enclosure with recording capability via A/V composite inputs at Rs3,200. Don’t know about the MPEG encoding quality though…

Thanks David. I’ll have a look there.

The recording capability is really interesting!!!
